Sarah Lutz was born in Madison, Wisconsin in 1967 but spent most of her childhood in Vermont and Guatemala. She received a B.S. in Studio Art from Skidmore College in 1989 and an M.F.A. from The American University in 1992. She was a Junior Fellow in Residence at Dartmouth College in 1994 and did a 1 month residency at The Vermont Studio Center in 1996. She has been living and working with her husband, painter John van Rens, and their two daughters, in New York City since 1994.
Sarah has had solo exhibitions at the Richmond Art Center in 1993 in Windsor, CT; in New York City at 55 Mercer Gallery in 1995 and The Painting Center in April 2003. Sarah exhibited her work at The Tang Teaching Museum and Art Gallery at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, NY from May 1 - June 6, 2004 and had a solo show at Brickwalk Books and Fine Art in 2005. She is a featured artist in this upcoming show and has been exhibiting with DNA Gallery in Provincetown, MA annually since 2001. Sarah is currently represented by Lohin Geduld Gallery in New York where she just had her first solo exhibition.
